Stay Lifehacks

One of the best ways to take in the area is to take short drives out from the motel, which poses as budget-friendly accommodation to explore the Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway. This incredible scenic drive follows the river and links several state parks and historic sites. Advice: Drive 20 minutes south to Minneopa State Park near Mankato. Take time to enjoy this great double waterfall and unique bison herd in a large enclosed prairie. That’s a really cool and easy day trip.

Visit the Saint Peter Food Co-op & Deli which is a short drive or long walk from the motel and experience local life. It’s a tremendous community grocery store – totally local products of high quality, organic produce, and a really great deli with excellent sandwiches and salads. Healthy and unique snacks can be yours to pack a picnic for a park just outside your room, before venturing out in an adjacent fast food heaven.

For some local history, check out the Nicollet County Historical Society – Treaty Site History Center. This gem places the visitor within the 1851 Traverse des Sioux Treaty. Just signed down the road, it changed the face of the region and exhibits an important and complex story. It’s a great museum and really gives some context about the area you are visiting.

Finally, you will have fully embraced the classic motel experience. The Viking Jr. takes you back in a time to simpler travel. Park right outside your room – clean, and simple. For a fun evening, we recommend checking out Jake’s Pizza, an old-time downtown local institution with that thin, unique crust. The true taste of the city and therefore a good reason to base your stay in a good old traditional family-owned motel.
